Kids go through a lot of different phases and change their minds often about the colors and themes they like in their rooms. Constantly changing room colors and painting over wall murals can get expensive. But painting simple canvas art is a great way to easily and inexpensively change the style of a room. Art for a kid's rooms can be simple enough for people with little to no artistic ability to create. Get some simple ideas from magazines or catalogs and start making over rooms with wall art.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Inexpensive art canvases in different sizes
  • Acrylic paints
  • 3-D paint
  • Glitter
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon
  • Paint brushes
  1. Step 1

Lightly draw a very simple design onto the canvas using a pencil. Pencil is easy to erase from the canvas if you make a mistake.

  2. Step 2

Paint in the design and background using acrylic paint. Outline the design on the canvas using 3-D paint (sold in squeeze bottles in craft stores). Also use the 3-D paint for any accents to the design.

  3. Step 3

While the 3-D paint is still wet, shake glitter onto the lines of paint. After about 24 hours, the paint should be dry and you can shake off any excess glitter.

  4. Step 4

Turn the canvas over and hot glue a length of ribbon to the back top edge. Glue each end of the ribbon about 3 inches from the edge of the canvas to form a hanger for the wall art. Add a bow to the top of the loop if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stick with really simple designs. Simple designs are easy to paint and they make a big impact.
  • Dress up plain designs with 3-D paint accents. Outline painted bubble letters in the 3-D paint or add swirls or dots to the background of the wall art.
  • Try using big globs of the 3-D paint like glue to stick things like bows or buttons onto the canvas.
