The newest version of the Sony PSP allows users to make calls using Skype to other Skype users, as well as cell phones and landlines across the world. Here's how to set up this handy feature.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sony PSP version 2000 (or later)
  • PSP Headset
  • PSP Headphones with Remote Control
  • Wireless Internet Connection
  • Memory Stick Duo (on which Skype application software will be saved)
  • Firmware version 3.90 (or later)
  1. Step 1

Make sure you are in a Wi-Fi accessible area.

  2. Step 2

Download firmware version 3.90 to your PSP device. This can be done by going to the Sony Playstation site and downloading it to either a PC or UMD disc for transfer to your PSP.

  3. Step 3

The PSP has a devoted Skype icon within its XMB menu, which you can access to create a free account. Go to NETWORK, scroll down to the SKYPE icon, and either choose CREATE NEW SKYPE ACCOUNT or SIGN IN if you already have one.

  4. Step 4

Plug in the PSP Headset and Remote Control when prompted.

  5. Step 5

To call a fellow Skype user, find the CONTACTS icon and click on the name of the person you wish to call.

  6. Step 6

To call a cell phone or landline, scroll to the DIAL icon, choose the country code using the D-Pad and X buttons, then enter the number you wish to call.

Tips & Warnings
  • Skype offers different rate plans depending on usage.
  • You can change your Skype profile, add and remove contacts and adjust settings directly from the PSP using the main menu.
