losing someone close to you is never easy, but for a teen it can be much tougher. Here are some tips to help you help your teenager cope with the loss better.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • support
  • time
  • love

Step1
Losing someone close to us hurts and for a teen it cn be very hard. Teens mourn different than adults so they have special needs. One of the first things to avoid is sayings to make them feel better like things will get better. Let them have their time to mourn.
Step2
Help the teen mourn by memorializing the friend in a special way. It lets the teen know you really care and many times will let the teen open up more.
Step3
Give them plenty of space. Most of the time we may never see a teen mourn openly in public as they tend to do it there own way. This may be in public or stay in private.
Step4
Be on the lookout if grades start to fall or they totally withdraw. this could lead to something worse and this is a signal that counseling could be needed.
Step5
The bottom line is teens grieve differently than we do so give them time. Be supportive and tell them if they want to talk your available. In time they will come to you, but do not force the issue.
