Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
First step is to be patient. If you start to try to get baby to sleep through the night to early you will get frustrated and give up. Anytime after 6 weeks you can start the process. Remember this is not automatic, this is a big step for your baby, be patient.
Step2
Teach your baby the difference between night and day. During the day keep the curtains open and have it bright when they are awake. Make sure to play with your little one on a regular basis during the day. If you baby wakes up during the night, sooth him, but do not play with him. Keep the mood calm and quiet.
Step3
Set a night time routines. Give your baby a bath and put him in his bed the same time each night. Your baby will sleep around 6 hours through the night. Wrapping him up in one of "momma's" used shirts may help him feel more comfortable. This works great if the baby is breast fed. Try to wake him up at the same time each day.

on 3/12/2008 I agree with your emphasis on routines. I had to learn this the hard way, but discovered that babies thrive on routine! Good article. :o)
