You love music, videos and your computer. Why not combine all three and learn how to burn and store your favorite CDs and DVDs. Your collection will be easily accessible, cataloged and ready for your next viewing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Package of writeable CDs
  • Package of DVD-R DVDs
  • Jewel Cases
  • CD and DVD compatible burning program
  • Adhesive labels
  • Black marker or pen
  • Storage shelf or bin

Step1
Choose the CD and DVD burning program on your computer. You may have more than one program to choose from. Select the program that is the most user-friendly.
Step2
Lightly touch the open/close button on your hard drive and place the CD or DVD you plan to burn into the burner. Once the CD or DVD is installed correctly, touch the button once to start the process.
Step3
Begin to copy the data from the source CD or DVD. This may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of tracks or chapters. During this time you may see a display on your screen telling you the percentage that has been copied or the amount of time left for the complete CD or DVD to be copied.
Step4
Once the CD or DVD is copied your program may either eject the source or ask you to manually eject the source and add the blank CD or DVD to be burned. Follow the program directions.
Step5
Place the burned CD or DVD into a jewel case after the burning process is completed. Write the title of the CD or DVD on the one adhesive label, before peeling it off of the sheet. Then place the label onto the CD or DVD and gently slide your finger across it, to eliminate any air bubbles that may form under the label.
Step6
Store your CDs or DVDs on a storage shelf, in a plastic bin or in the cabinet of your entertainment system.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have more than one burning program on your computer and are unsure which one to use, try tinkering around with display options. This will help you decide if it is too difficult for you to use.
  • You may want to choose a pack of multi-colored jewel cases for fun.
  • Do not place the CD or DVD on a surface that could scratch the data.
  • Remember that DVD-R plays in older model DVD players.
  • When making a CD, measure and cut a piece of paper that fits the jewel case. Write down and number the song titles on the paper. Place the paper into the jewel case.
  • Do not sell copies. This is considering bootlegging and it is against the law.
