How to Protect Your Keys to Stay Safe

Did you even think of your keys as a security risk? They are. It is amazing how many break-ins happen because the wrong person got hold of someone's keys. These few tips are a great deterrent against crime. So simple but a little bit of caution goes a long ways toward protecting your home and your life.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Keep your keys hidden in a safe place around your home. Don't stick them over the door or under the mat or the petunia plant. Bury them in a plastic container in your flower bed, put them inside a decorative birdhouse, or best yet, hide them inside a shed or garage in a really hard to find spot. Don't put them where others will see you retrieving them, though.
Step2
Be conservative with keys that you give to friends. Break ins can happen when too many people get hold of the keys. When a friend of a friend gets out of hand, the wrong people can too easily have access your home. A couple of extra people with keys is enough.
Step3
Never give your whole ring of keys to other people. The auto mechanic doesn't need your house keys. It takes just a second to make an impression of your house keys. Everyone in a shop may have access to order sheets with your name, address and phone number hanging on the wall. This goes for the valet or anyone else who needs to use your car keys. Keep your car keys on a separate ring from your house keys. That way you'll never be tempted to hand the whole ring of keys over to anyone.
Step4
Avoid leaving a set of your keys in the desk drawer at work. Don't leave them in the locker at the gym you work out at unless it has a lock that you purchased yourself. Don't leave them in the pants of the suit you're having cleaned. Always check to see that your keys aren't left where someone can grab them.
Step5
Eliminate personal information from your key rings. If they steal your car, they know where to drive it and look like they belong there. If they take your house keys, they'll know right where to go. Leave the info private. You don't want someone to grab your keys and immediately know where you live.

I keep an extra set of keys in my pocketbook just in case, I have lost a set of keys and that only has to happen once for you to keep an extra set. I also invested in a rock to hide my keys it goes in the dirt and once a month we change the location They also make a great flower pot to hide your keys in. Thanks for the tips
