Things You'll Need:
- 1 5 7/8 inch Styrofoam™ egg
- Scissors
- 1 1/8 yard cotton fabric, old-fashion calico print
- Scissors
- Appliqué glue
- Wooden skewers
- Empty glass or can
- Acrylic decoupage medium
- 3 small bowls
- 1 inch sponge brush
- Crackle finish kit
- Acrylic craft paint, brown
- Tablespoon measure
- Teaspoon measure
- Matt varnish (optional)
- 1- 5/8 inch wired ribbon, 18 inches long, coordinating color to fabric
- 1 stem silk flowers,
- Clear glue
- Basket
- Easter grass
-
Step 1
Cut the calico fabric pieces into sections. Make sure that together, all the fabric covers the egg. Use the appliqué glue and glue the fabric pieces to the egg. Be sure to overlap each section fabric by about ¼ inch.
-
Step 2
Let the glue dry. Push a wooden skewer into the small end of egg to use as a handle. When during drying times, rest the skewer in an empty glass or can. Make sure the glass or can is heavy enough so it won't tip over from the weight of the egg.
-
Step 3
Pour the acrylic decoupage medium into a small bowl. Use the brush and cover the egg with two coats of acrylic decoupage medium letting it dry between coats.
-
Step 4
Pour the crackle medium into a small bowl. Cover the egg with a generous coat of crackle medium, following the manufacturer's instructions on the container. Let dry.
-
Step 5
Mix three tablespoons of clear-drying craft glue with one teaspoon brown acrylic paint and a small amount of water in a small bowl. The mixture should have the consistency of smooth, heavy cream. Brush this mixture onto egg with smooth, generous strokes, brushing each section just once and not overlapping strokes. Set aside to crackle.
-
Step 6
Apply a coat of matte varnish, if desired, after the crackle sets. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container.
-
Step 7
Tie ribbon around egg and tie a bow. Glue silk flower and leaves on top of the bow. Put Easter grass into a pretty basket and place the crackle Easter eggs on top.
