Step1
There are many ways to get things for free. The methods used depend on what you are trying to get. If you are looking to score a free dinner or a discount on your meal at a restaurant, then your device should be a smile, a jovial attitude, and a sincere concern for your server. If you stand out among the crowd of restaurant patrons, in a positive way, you are bound to benefit, especially if you frequent an eating establishment. It is to the business's advantage to show you preferential treatment. You will, in return, be likely to refer their generous hospitality to your friends. You get something for free, and they get some great word of mouth advertising.
Step2
If free products and merchandise is what you seek, then be prepared to lay your pen to paper. There are numerous companies that will provide free merchandise if you have used their products in the past and have been dissatisfied. Larger companies are more likely to provide you with free merchandise for your complaint letter. These can include: Coca-Cola, Levis, major hotel chains, McDonalds, and on and on.
Step3
Here is how a complaint letter should be produced:
1. Write to the top person in charge. Research the company and find out who has the authority to make decisions on wether you will be compensated for your poor service, product, etc. Usually this is someone in the marketing department, ie. Marketing Director.
2. Send your complaint via regular snail mail. It is more professional and will have a better chance of reaching your intended recipient.
3. Keep your letter short and to the point. You want to ensure that your message gets across and the reader understands what they can do to rectify the situation.
4. Shame the company at fault. This will make them more likely to send you something in exchange for their shotty item/service.
5. Don't forget to include your intention of finding another company to fulfill your needs if they do not make the situation right.
6. Always use a friendly and professional tone in your letter. Do not threaten or use hateful language. Remember, the first step to getting what you want is a "smile"!
