There are many benefits to being a homeschooled student. You generally don't have strict time schedules, you get to study and learn at your own pace. Tests are far from stressful and rarely timed. However, when you get in to college, you suddenly find yourself faced with deadlines, classrooms, other students, unfamiliar teachers and a sense of dread. Don't panic! Relax and follow these steps, and you should be well on your way to successfully surviving college.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Calendar
  • Watch
  • Backpack
  • Folders
  • Notebooks
  • Writing utensil

Step1
Learn exactly when your classes are scheduled. For the first month, fill your calendar with the times of each class on their respective dates. It may also help to add the class room numbers. This is easier than trying to hunt down your school scheduled every day and it will help you to memorize the times.
Step2
Make sure you know where your classes are before going to them. Instead of desperately seeking the class rooms on our first day, take a tour of the campus a few days before hand and get a firm idea of where everything is located.
Step3
Time will now be an issue. Get a watch if you don't have one already, it can be difficult to get into the habit of checking clocks and keeping time schedules, so help facilitate this with a watch.
Step4
Get a backpack. You are probably not used to dealing with multiple books at one time, or at least carrying them around, so this is essential. Plan what books you will need for which class the night before.
Step5
Buy folders for each class and possibly a folder to put unfinished assignments in. This will help you keep track of papers, syllabus, tests and assignments. There will be a lot of paper you'll have to keep track of all of a sudden.
Step6
Keep at least one notebook per class. Keep elaborate notes because you won't always have access to the instructor, and stay well stocked in writing utensils as you can't run to the cupboard and get them any more.
Step7
Realize each instructor has different expectations for you. Learn these expectations, meet them, and try to exceed them. Analyze your instructor and determine how to make them react better to you, this will drastically simplify your college career.
Step8
Get in to the college spirit. Write for the school paper, attend games, volunteer, run for student government, just get out there and get in to the flow of things. This will help you integrate yourself with your peers and help you familiarize yourself with the workings of the school.
