Kangaroos are an icon of Australia, well-loved throughout the globe. But although they may be the world's most adorable marsupial, to many indigenous Australians they are also a tasty meal. And the kangaroo's distinct anatomy presents certain challenges for successful hunters, when they need to skin their formerly hop-happy quarry.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hang the kangaroo upside down. This is usually done from a tree.

  2. Step 2

Cut off the privates if the kangaroo is male. Male kangaroo scrotums are popular accessories in Australia. They are often used as coin purses or as decorations.

  3. Step 3

Remove the skin and the fur by cutting the kangaroo down the middle, then cutting off the skin. Be very careful not to cut past the skin and into the internal organs.

  4. Step 4

Remove the guts after the skin has been removed. Set these guts aside. They can be used to create "kangaroo pudding:" the guts, liver and heart wrapped up in the stomach.

  5. Step 5

Cut the kangaroo into pieces: the ribs come off first and the arms and legs last. These pieces can then be used to make a fine, delicious kangaroo stew.
