Things You'll Need:
- A car with working headlights, taillights and turn signals.
- Patience
- Courtesy
-
Step 1
When entering an expressway use your turn signal. Even though you may think it is obvious to others that you will be merging, it helps to clarify the fact and calls attention to drivers who may not be paying full attention.
-
Step 2
If you are already on the expressway and a car is trying to enter, be polite and cooperative by moving over to the left so the new car can enter smoothly. Also, make sure to use your turn signal and get over as soon as you reasonably can to avoid slamming on brakes and last-minute lane changes.
-
Step 3
Remember, the key to a more relaxing, timely drive on the expressway is to keep things moving as smoothly as possible. A very important aspect of this is to follow the rule "Slower Traffic Keep Right." The left lane is for passing only. So if you are in the left lane and a faster car comes up behind you--move to the right as soon as you possibly can. It is more dangerous and causes more frustration when a faster driver has to pass a slower driver on an inside lane.
-
Step 4
Finally, be patient and courteous with other drivers. There are always situations that cannot be controlled such as accidents causing back-ups, rush-hour traffic causing bumper-to-bumper situations, among other incidents.
