How to Stop the Bleeding From a Shaving Nick

Skip the bloody toilet paper and stop the bleeding past.

Once again, you are shaving your legs or face, when you feel that darned burning sensation. You need to stop the bleeding in a hurry so you can get on with your day. You can apply pressure and wait it out, but a handful of home remedies may be more effective.

Things You'll Need

• Ice cube
• Styptic pencil
• Antibiotic ointment
• Bandage
• Witch hazel

Instructions

1. Press an ice cube on the nick for two minutes. Press firmly and use a towel to hold the ice in place. Dab an antibiotic ointment on the nick.

2. Apply a small bandage to the nick, unless it is on your face. If the nick is on your face, apply a bit of witch hazel with a tissue, using firm pressure.

3. Keep a styptic pencil on-hand for shaving nicks. When the styptic pencil is applied, it does not sting, irritate or cause stains on clothing. It can stop the bleeding quickly.

Tips & Warnings

• If your skin is dry, it is more likely to get nicked during shaving. Use a daily moisturizer to keep skin soft.

• Prevent nicks by using a good moisturizing shaving cream or gel.

• Never use a dull razor since it will be more likely to cut you than a new razor.
