How to Stop the Bleeding From a Shaving Nick

Save

Once again, you are shaving your legs or face, when you feel that darned burning sensation. You need to stop the bleeding in a hurry so you can get on with your day. You can apply pressure and wait it out, but a handful of home remedies may be more effective.

Things You'll Need

  • Ice cube
  • Styptic pencil
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Bandage
  • Witch hazel
  • Press an ice cube on the nick for two minutes. Press firmly and use a towel to hold the ice in place. Dab an antibiotic ointment on the nick.

  • Apply a small bandage to the nick, unless it is on your face. If the nick is on your face, apply a bit of witch hazel with a tissue, using firm pressure.

  • Keep a styptic pencil on-hand for shaving nicks. When the styptic pencil is applied, it does not sting, irritate or cause stains on clothing. It can stop the bleeding quickly.
