Even the cleanest showers can get hard water buildup over time. This article will show you the quick, easy and green way to remove the gunk and get your shower flowing again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Lemon juice or vinegar
  • Freezer bag
  • Plastic grocery bag (optional)

Step1
If possible, remove your shower head. If you cannot, please refer to the tips section for help before proceeding.
Step2
Place shower head into the freezer bag with the buildup side down.
Step3
Fill the bag until the buildup areas of the shower head are completely covered.
Step4
Let it soak for six to eight hours. Check to see if the buildup is easily removed. Let it soak long if needed. The buildup should come off just a little scrubbing and a good rinse in clean water.
Step5
Rinse well and reattach.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot remove the shower head, place the freezer bag into a plastic grocery bag. You can use the grocery bag to tie the lemon juice/vinegar bag in place.
  • If the shower head is metal, you might want to check it sooner to make sure the acid from the lemon juice or vinegar hasn't disturbed the metal plating.
