When you buy a dozen eggs, you get more than just food. Follow these steps to use not only the eggs, but the eggshells and the carton and go green at the same time.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One dozen eggs in a paper or Styrofoam carton
  1. Step 1

Obviously, you will enjoy your eggs in a number of ways, whether fried, poached or scrambled. You may even prefer eggs in an omelet or any number of dishes.

  2. Step 2

Don't throw away those eggshells. There are endless uses for them, especially in the garden. These include placing the shells in water for several days and then spraying the water on plants, supplying them with calcium. Then you can crush the remainder and place around outdoor plants to keep snails away. Another great use is as a drain cleaner. Grind up the shells and place in the drain basket of your sink. As the shells go through your pipes, they'll help clear things that build up, like grease and hair.

  3. Step 3

Know that there are a large number of uses for egg cartons, both paper and Styrofoam. From a variety of uses for craft enthusiasts, to coin organizers to any number of ingenious uses, you can re-use the carton. So after you've used a dozen eggs, you're left with no garbage and you've gone green.
