How to Make Thai Rice Porridge

Thai rice porridge is comfort food for Thais. After a long day or a stomach illness, this meal tastes delicious and goes easy on your stomach. Unlike most Thai dishes, rice porridge has no spicy heat; the ideal temperature of the porridge is warm to hot to make for a very soothing dish. This recipe serves three or four people. Read on to learn how to make Thai rice porridge.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of jasmine rice
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of sliced chicken meat
  • 1 tbsp. of ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 tsbp. of Thai fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp. of chopped green onion
  • 1 tbsp. of chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups of hot chicken broth
  • Deep cooking pot
  1. Step 1

    Wash rice while 3 cups of water are heating on the stove. Add rice to pot.

  2. Step 2

    Cook rice on low for 45 minutes to an hour, or until rice is soft enough for your taste.

    Add hot chicken broth to rice mixture.

  4. Step 4

    Add chicken pieces.

  5. Step 5

    Add fish sauce.

  6. Step 6

    When preparing to serve, break two eggs into serving bowl or dish. You may want to give each guest one egg--in this case, simply break the egg in each individual bowl.)

  7. Step 7

    Put rice soup gently on top of eggs. The heat from the soup will cook the eggs.

  8. Step 8

    Garnish with ginger, green onions and cilantro.

  9. Step 9

    Serve immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you prefer to use ground pork or turkey, the soup is also very tasty.
