So you just saw the Oscars and fell in love with Diane Lane’s Beautiful finger waved style. You can create this look on your hair. Here is how…

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pin curl clips
  • Tail comb
  • Styling product
  • Sectioning clips
  • Bobby pins
  • Flat brush

Step1
Pre-dry the hair in the direction of the finished look. Section your dry hair into 2 sections (Top, then sides & back)
Step2
Part your hair on your best side & prepare by spraying from length to ends with a working hair spray (spray you can run your fingers through). This will give your hair texture, helping it hold the style better.
Step3
ROW 1- Starting at the part take 1” square sections moving from hairline to crown area, top section only. Hold the hair away from the part and wrap it around your finger creating a circle. Fasten the hair to the scalp with a pin curl clip.
Step4
Continue toward the back of the section making sure the pin curls are wrapped in the same direction (example clock wise).
Step5
Row 2- Do everything in step 5 except now you are going to change the direction. The top section is done. Now on to the sides and back of the head. Do your best to work from one side of the head around the back ending on the opposite side. Continue with the pattern. If you left off with a row going counter clock wise, start your next row going clock wise.
Step6
Continue this pattern until all hair is set. Spray with hair spray
Step7
Heat 15- 20 minutes with Bonnet dryer- okay if you do not have one, use your blow-dryer with a diffuser, or hold the hair in place while you heat it up with the blow-dryer making sure it keeps its shape.
Step8
Cool 5- 10 minutes & remove pins & run fingers through
Step9
Spray in place for finish

Tips & Warnings

  • For a stronger set pattern do this on wet hair and dry in a bonnet dryer
  • Make sure the ends are inside the circle and shaped as a circle or they will show up in the end set as a funky texture. That can be a variation for this style.
  • Alternate the direction of the pin curls differently in each row. 1st row clockwise, 2nd row counter clock wise.
  • Pin curls do not have to be perfectly smooth, just in a circle.
  • The more texture in your set the more texture in your finish.
  • The smaller pin curls & sections the tighter the wave.
  • The larger the pin curls & sections the looser the wave.
