Windshield wipers help us all safely see what's ahead of us in adverse weather conditions. Windshield washer fluid aids in cleaning and, in some cases, defrosting the windshield to help the wipers do their job. Sometimes windshield wipers are misaligned and their spray pattern is misaligned, or not optimized for the best cleaning action. This article will show you how to direct their spray pattern to your liking.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Needle or Pin

Step1
First, squirt your washer fluid onto the windshield to get a test, or starting spray pattern.
Step2
From there, take a needle or pin and stick it into the windshield washer squirt nozzle to be realigned. Gently move the needle/nozzle in the direction you desire for spray pattern correction.
Step3
Lastly, squirt your washer fluid onto the windshield to confirm your new spray pattern. A few iterations of these three steps may be necessary as this is a trial-and-error process. Perform this same process to any and all remaining misaligned nozzles.

Tips & Warnings

  • When adjusting the nozzle(s), having a second helper stationed in the car can make things go quicker by providing better accuracy and feedback.
  • When adjusting the nozzle(s), handle the needle or pin at the end closest to the nozzle as to prevent it breaking off inside and clogging the nozzle
