If you find your Internet Explorer browsing experience slow, you can make a couple tweaks to try to increase its speed and ease your frustration. You can turn off graphics, and you can increase your cache.

  • PC with Microsoft Windows (any version) and Internet Explorer

Instructions

  1. Turn Off Graphics

    • 1

      Click the "Tools" button, indicated by a gear icon.

      Click "Internet options."

    • 3

      Click the "Advanced" tab.

    • 4

      Scroll down to the Multimedia section and un-check the boxes next to "Play animations in web pages," "Play sounds in web pages," "Play videos in web pages" and "Show pictures."

      Click the "Apply" button.

    Increase Cache

    • 6

      Click the "Tools" (gear) icon and click "Internet options."

    • 7

      Click the "General" tab.

    • 8

      Click the "Settings" button in the Browsing History section.

    • 9

      Click the radio button next to "Automatically."

    • 10

      Type "250" in the box next to "Disk space to use" and click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't make any other changes to the registry. Messing around with the Windows registry can cause serious problems if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Backing up the registry before making any changes may be a good idea.
