Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- paper
- pen
- 10 minutes a day
Step1
Skip the french fries
Being nice to ourselves doesn't mean to pig out on junk food or to become a couch potato. There are plenty of activities that feel good while still being good for us.
Step2
Make your list
Make a list of things that feel good. Think of easy-to-do things that you like but seldom fit into your busy schedule. Make the list a long one so there are plenty of choices to fit your mood or the occasion.
Step3
Take 10 minutes
Resolve to spend ten minutes a day being nice to yourself. Try to consciously do this every single day. Choose something from your list and treat yourself.
Step4
Here are some starter ideas: play a soothing song and really listen to the music and words * call an old friend to catch up on their news * soak in a bubble bath or whirlpool tub * pull out some old letters to read once again * turn off the TV to romp with the kids or a pet; tickle and chase and bounce around until everyone is breathless * light a candle and dim the lights to enjoy the flicker and glow of the flame * call a new friend to develop a friendship * find a quiet spot to read a book * sing a song in the shower * take a walk to a favorite spot * take a ten minute nap * get out mementos from the prom or other special occasion to savor the memories of special times * make a list of good things that have happened to you lately.
Step5
5 happy things
Each day note down 5 happy things that happened that day or things you are grateful for. Even on a rotten day, you can find some small moment of goodness. Maybe it's seeing a pretty sunset or someone holding a door open for you. Look for these moments and it makes you more mindful of the good things in life.

on 3/7/2008 Sounds like something everyone should do every day. First thing I'll write down is my granddaughter brought us some of her home-made cookies this evening. Now to make my list for tomorrow, shouldn't take long. Thanks, Gail
