Many children who are involved in martial arts, especially the younger ones, have difficulty tying their belts for class. While the parents try to be helpful, many of them are clueless as to how to properly complete the task themselves. Despite their earnest efforts, a lot of parents and children just can't seem to get it right. If you are a martial artist yourself, or just a parent of one, this article will show you how to properly tie a martial arts belt.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A martial arts uniform
  • A martial arts belt

Step1
Find the center of the belt by lining up the ends and folding the entire belt in half.
Step2
Place the center of the belt against your stomach.
Step3
Wrap the right half of the belt, which usually has the stripes, clockwise all the way around your waist and back to the center.
Step4
Wrap the left half of the belt counterclockwise over the top of the other half and back to the center.
Step5
Take the right side, which should be wrapped on top, and tuck it underneath the center and left side (striped side), and pull it up through the top.
Step6
Cross the two ends of the belt into an 'X' shape.
Step7
Take the bottom end (striped side), bring it over the top of the other end and place it through the opening.
Step8
Pull down tightly on both ends.
Step9
When you are finished, the stripes should be on your left and the ends of the belt should be of equal length.
