Things You'll Need:
- Fresh clean raw eggs, paper Mache eggs, or plastic
- Needle, pin or other sharp instrument for blown eggs
- materials for decorating such as paints, dyes, paint brushes, jewels, beads, paper Mache medium, colorful bits of paper, hot glue and hot glue gun or other suitable glue, stickers, stamping materials,
-
Step 1
Blow eggs:
Start with eggs at room temperature. Carefully poke a hole at either end of an egg with a sharp object such as a needle, making the hole at the large end a bit bigger. Stick the needle into the egg and swirl to help break up the contents. Cover holes with fingers and shake egg to break yoke and to help loosen the egg from the inside of the shell. -
Step 2
Holding egg over a bowl with large end pointing down, blow through other hole until the inside of the egg drops into the bowl. If it refuses to budge try shaking the egg a bit more being sure to cover the holes when you do! Repeat with other eggs and allow to dry several hours or over night.
Cover and refrigerate immediately, the contents from the blown eggs for baking or scrambled eggs! -
Step 3
Paint blown or paper mache eggs with acrylic or water colours or dyes or use decoupage to cover with colourful bits of paper. Decoupage works with plastic easter eggs as well. Do one side of an egg, let it dry and then do the other. When completly dry once more, add your choice of sequins, decals, jewels, beads and bows. Use your imagination!
-
Step 4
If using the eggs to decorate an Easter tree, add a length of ribbon or pretty string to the large end of the egg with a dab of hot glue then finish off with a tiny ribbon bow covering the spot where you attached the string. Help protect the eggs by adding a coat or two of matte varnish after the paint or dye is dry. Allow to dry completely before finishing.
