How to Transfer a Punch Needle Pattern

Punch needle is a popular form of embroidery, derived from the Russian "igolochkoy." But while traditional American embroidery kits in craft stores come with pre-stamped patterns, punch needle projects usually need to have the pattern transferred by the embroider. These patterns are often in books, but it's not hard to transfer them to your weaver's cloth. Read on to learn how to transfer a punch needle pattern.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Pattern selection
• Copier
• Weaver's cloth for project
• Light table or window
• Tape
• Transferring pencil or blue sewing pen

1. Choose your pattern, and make a photocopy of its page in the book, so that you have the pattern on a piece of paper.

2. Carefully line up the weaver's cloth with the pattern so that it is not crooked, and tape the cloth to the pattern. Make sure the design is oriented left-right the way you want.

3. Using a light table or window, shine light through the paper pattern and through the cloth. You will be able to see the pattern lines through the cloth.

4. Trace the pattern with a transferring pencil or sewing pen. Work carefully so that the pattern is transferred very accurately.

• Don't use a permanent pen or a graphite pencil to trace the pattern.
