How to File Taxes for Free Online

Filing your taxes online is much easier than preparing all that paper work. However, many people simply can't afford to pay the fees associated with many of the online sites. The IRS has implemented a program that allows people within middle to low income levels to file taxes for free online through many of the major sites.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

1. Go to the IRS website IRS.gov and look for the free file link.
2. Click the free file link on the IRS home page.
3. Select the start now tab from the free file page on the IRS web page.
4. From this page you can either chose to browse all the companies participating in the free file tax program or use the guide me to a company tool the IRS has developed to select the company that will work for you.
5. Once you have selected your company, click the link and go to the companies website to file your taxes.

• Some companies will charge a nominal fee to file your state taxes.
