Step1
This procedure assumes starting with an unpartitioned fixed disk and a 3-com NIC.
Step2
Boot the computer with a DOS floppy that has at least FDISK, FORMAT, and CD-Rom support.
Use FDISK to create a 2Gb partition on the fixed disk and set the partition active. When exiting FDISK the computer will reboot to save partition information.
After restarting, Format C:

Insert the Windows 95 CD-Rom and type “D:\setup”. This starts the Windows 95 setup process.
At the “Windows 95 Setup” window, just continue.

At the “Software License Agreement” window, click [Yes] to accept the agreement.
At the “Windows 95 Setup” window, just continue.
The Windows 95 Setup Wizard should now start. Accept the default and click [Next].

For “Setup Options”, select “Custom” and click [Next].
At the “Certificate of Authenticity” window, enter the required number. For example: 31097-0026686-54256.
When the “User Information” window appears it doesn’t matter what you enter hear. Be creative! We named the Organization “Hackersinc”. Click [Next].

At the first “Analyzing Your Computer” window, accept the defaults and click [Next].
At the second “Analyzing Your Computer” window, select “Network Adapter” and click [Next].
Step7
At the “Select Components” window, choose the following:
a. Accessibility Options.
b. Accessories (All but “Win95 Tour”)
c. Disk Tools.
d. Windows Messaging.
Step8
Do not choose the following: (deselect if necessary)
a. Communications.
b. Microsoft Fax.
c. Multimedia.
d. Microsoft Network.
Step9
Click [Next]
At the “Network Configuration” window, click [Add].
At the “Select Network Component Type” window, select “Adapter” and click [Add].
Click [Have Disk].
Insert the 3-Com drivers disk #1 into A: and Click [OK]
Select “3Com Fast Etherlink XL 10/100Mb Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)” and click [OK].
Step10
After the driver has installed, configure TCP/IP as follows:
a. Highlight TCP/IP and click [Properties].
b. Click “Specify IP address”.
i. IP address = 172.16.102.5
ii. Subnet Mask = 255.255.254.0
iii. Gateway = 172.16.102.1
(NOTE YOUR IP ADDRESS WILL BE DIFFERENT)
c. Click [OK].
Step11
If you want to turn on file and print sharing, click the button and do it now.
Click [Next].
At the “Identification” Window, computer name = WIN2. Click [Next].
Click next at the “Computer Settings” window.
Step12
Select “No” for a start up disk. Click [Next].
To start copying files, click [Next].
When prompted, insert 3-Com drivers Disk #2. Click [OK].
Step13
Remove all disks when prompted and Click [Finish].
After reboot. Enter “root” as your user name. You know the password!
