How to Make a Wrap Fabric Basket

These can be used a gift baskets, potpourri holders for bathrooms or bedrooms, used as Easter baskets, or anything else that requires a basket. Read on to learn how to make a wrap fabric basket.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 yards paper core
  • 1 ½ yard fabric
  • ¾ yard contrasting fabric
  1. Step 1

    Tear fabric into 2-inch wide strips.

  2. Step 2

    Begin wrapping fabric strips around paper core coiling core into basket bottom as you wrap.

  3. Step 3

    Tie coils together at 2-inch intervals with same fabric as you wrap.

  4. Step 4

    To tie, refer to diagram. Wrap fabric strip between coils on outside of basket. Use table knife to push fabric strip between coils, coming from back to front on right hand side of knot. Pull fabric tightly and push to inside of basket on left of knot.

  5. Step 5

    Pull tightly and continue wrapping coil; knots should be on outside. Overlap ends of fabric strips when changing colors.

  6. Step 6

    Continue coiling to form circle the size of basket bottom desired. Gradually curve rows to form basket shape.

  7. Step 7

    You can add a handle either made of fabric as well or another decorative feature.
