Things You'll Need:
- Two handkerchiefs (preferably large white, with colored borders)
- Cotton wadding or similar material for filling
- Thread
- Ribbon
-
Step 1
OutlineOn the first handkerchief, use a pencil to mark on the wrong side of the handkerchief the outline of the doll including the head, arms and body as shown in the diagram.
-
Step 2
Sewing two handkerchiefs togetherPlace the two handkerchiefs together, right sides facing each other, and sew on the lines marked in the diagram.
-
Step 3
Tear the cotton wadding or filling up into small pieces and push into body up to the head, pack in tightly to make the round head. Continue to stuff to fill the chest area up until it is tightly packed. The rest of the body can be filled more loosely. The opening is closed by a line of stitches.
-
Step 4
The face may be marked with pen, pencil or with paint according to your taste or capability. You can even use a few stitches in different colors to embroider the face if you wish.
-
Step 5
Know that on the line just below the arms, the handkerchiefs are cut from the hems to the body of the doll. Below this line, the two sides of the upper handkerchief are brought together and over handed for their entire length. The lower handkerchief is turned backward and treated the same way.
-
Step 6
These two sections are then brought to the front of the doll, with the design running down the front and kept in place by tying or sewing the ribbon in place around the waist of the doll.
-
Step 7
Next cut the handkerchief near the head of the doll as indicated on the previous diagram and bring around the face of the doll. Use a ribbon to tie around the neck of the doll to secure in place.
-
Step 8
Wrap the last section of the handkerchief around the arms of the doll, and sew around the ends in a ruffled fashion to denote hands and then the rest will lay loose over to the front.
-
Step 9
You can add any extra embellishments or decorations to the dress if you wish.
