Ventilated shelf units are great additions to any closet as they help create extra space and provide areas to get certain items off the floor. Read on to learn how to best install a ventilated shelf in the home.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tools
  • A local home improvement store
  • An empty, stable wall in a closet
  1. Step 1

Measure closet for total length of where the shelf will go.

  2. Step 2

Go to a home improvement store and purchase measured lengths of shelving as indicated in Step 1. Be sure to ask a sales associate for the best types of shelving.

  3. Step 3

Purchase end wall brackets that will fit with the given shelving.

  4. Step 4

Purchase rear shelf clips (enough to cover every 10 inches of the measure length).

  5. Step 5

Bring the items home and mark in the closet on the wall at the desired height of the shelf.

  6. Step 6

Install end brackets (one at the end of each wall at the desired height).

  7. Step 7

Measure the back wall for the desired height of the shelf and mark the holes for the rear shelf clips every 10 inches of where the shelf will touch the wall.

  8. Step 8

Install rear shelf clips in the drilled holes.

  9. Step 9

Fit shelf in to the end wall brackets and snap into place with the clips that are already on the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Install a center bar if the shelf is more than six feet long for added support.
  • Turn one of the rear wall clips upside down so that the shelf does not snap up.
  • Make sure you have a spotter to help guide the shelving unit in to place.
