Fuzzi Bunz Pocket Cloth Diapers

Do you have a funky smell to your cloth diapers? They should smell beautiful to the sniff after every wash! And nice and fluffy for our babies bums also!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

I found that one issue that was making my cloth diapers stink was my inserts! So, I started washing my inserts seperate from my diapers, at least every other wash or so. I add a bit of bleach to the wash of just inserts! and wash them in hot water.

  2. Step 2

After bleaching the in wash, I usually do another hot water wash with no bleach to make sure the inserts are very clean!

  3. Step 3

Now, for the diapers, especially Fuzzi Bunz Pocket diapers, I would do a cold water wash with vinegar, about 1/4 a cup or so. Then after that wash I do a warm water rinse.

  4. Step 4

I dry my diapers and inserts on low in the dryer.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your diapers still don't smell beautiful, do a repeat wash with the vinegar! Sometimes if you have had the smell problem for a while, it may take a few washes to really get the smell out! But mine smell awesome after this!
  • You can also add a tiny bit of bleach to the diaper wash, but do not do this very often, it lessens the life of the diapers, but if your smell problem is extreme it may be neccessary!
  • Sunning may also help your diapers, I live in the mountains and it's either windy (60 MPH winds), snowing or raining most of the time so I don't typically get to Sun my diapers unless it's summer time.
  • Many people swear by tree tea oil to give your diapers a fresh smell, I tried it but it gave my boys a rash even with only a few little drops in the wash.
  • If your child gets a rash, do a few more washes in warm water to get the vinegar out, it's possible that's the cause of the rash.

on 6/20/2009 Thank you for this article!! I need a few extra tips as I noticed today they are a bit stinky

on 4/23/2008 Stinky diapers is a key indicator that you have detergent buildup sitting on the surface of your dipes. You may need to strip them. Crank up your water heater, and wash over and over (no detergent) until your water has no suds in it. It is a good idea to occasionally check your last rinse cycle for suds. If you see any, you either need to rinse more or use less detergent in the future.
