The following steps show how to safely thaw frozen fish for a delicious meal.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cold water
  • Microwave
  1. Step 1

Thaw fish in its original wrapping in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours per pound of fish.

  2. Step 2

If you want to thaw frozen fish faster, hold the fish under cold (not hot or warm) running water until the fish is flexible, then cook as soon as possible.

  3. Step 3

Use the microwave on the lowest defrost setting to thaw the fish. Follow the microwave instructions based on the size or amount of fish.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best method for thawing frozen fish is to let it defrost in the refrigerator, since this will result in the least moisture loss and more tender flesh.
  • When checking thawing fish to see if it is pliant, and therefore thawed, do not bend the fish too far so you break it in half.
