Step 1
Check your phone book or the Internet for local cosmetology schools. These schools offer inexpensive haircuts, and you don’t have to worry about quality since an experienced instructor always checks the cuts. Also, when you make the appointment, you can request a student who is about to graduate and is therefore more experienced if you are worried.
-
Step 2
Check the ads in your local paper. You might find an ad for hair models at a local salon. Hair models are needed so an art director at the salon can demonstrate a certain cut or technique to the other stylists. Or the salon might want to get some great hair photos for advertising purposes. Sometimes a hair model will even appear in a show. You will get a free cut, but the trade-off is you won’t have control over what kind of cut you get.
-
Step 3
Call a local salon you would like to try. Ask how much a haircut costs with one of their junior stylists. These stylists are newer to the salon and have not built up a large client following yet, so their cuts are cheaper than the salon stars.
-
Step 4
Check local coupons such as Valpak. When new salons open, they might offer a coupon to bring in new clients.
-
Step 5
If you have a very simple haircut, you might want to try one of the inexpensive hair salon chains such as Dollar Cuts and Fantastic Sam’s, which are found in most cities.
