What better way to celebrate a birthday than to go camping?! Bring the party with you out into the woods with this simple cake idea.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dutch oven
  • Cake mix
  • Eggs
  • Frosting
Step1
Mix up your cake batter and pour it into your dutch oven. Read the instructions before you go to make sure you have all the ingredients. Don't forget to check the high altitude instructions, if applicable.
Step2
With cake mix inside, place cover on dutch oven. Heat the dutch oven to approximately 350 degrees F by putting coals both underneath the legs and over the cover. Usually a total of 20 to 25 coals will do it but each oven heats a little differently.
Step3
Cook the cake for 20 to 30 minutes. Check on it as little as possible to prevent heat from escaping.
Step4
Let cool for at least an hour before attempting to remove from dutch oven. Remember, the cake will keep cooking a bit during this time.
Step5
Remove from dutch oven, cool further before frosting. Don't forget the candles. Happy birthday!
