Harlan Coben is one of the most popular mystery novelists in the United States, and his books never fail to keep readers on the edge of their respective seats until the last page has been turned.
Visit the Harlan Coben website (see Resources below).
Step2
While on the website, click on "Novels" on the bottom-left side of the page. Starting from the bottom of the list, read each book in order of how they appear, starting with "Deal Breaker" and ending with "Hold Tight."
Step3
Visit New York and New Jersey and explore the areas he writes about. Whether it be downtown Manhattan or Newark, Coben writes about it all in exquisite detail, so find your favorite places and see where the story was born.
Step4
Note that the first seven books written by Coben feature popular character Myron Bolitar. That character later makes an appearance in the book entitled "Promise Me," which also features characters from some of the books in the sixth and seventh Bolitar books.
Step5
Read books by authors who orginated the genre Coben uses. Stories by Raymond Chandler and his fictional gumshoe character, Philip Marlow are a great place to start as Chandler is often considered the father of hard-boiled gum shoe mysteries.
Tips & Warnings
Make sure you read each of Coben's books in order since most of the stories are chronological. It makes each book increasingly more exciting.
