Setting a screen saver password can help protect your computer for those times you walk away from it for a period of time. These steps will show you how to protect your files by using a screen saver password.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer using Microsoft Windows
  1. Step 1

    Click “Start” and then click on “Control Panel." If you are using an older version of Windows you will click “Start," point to “Settings” and then click on “Control Panel."

  2. Step 2

    If your “Control Panel” is in “Category View," click the option in the task pane that says “Switch to Classic View."

  3. Step 3

    Double click “Display.” The “Display Properties” dialog box will open.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the “Screen Saver” tab. Under “Screen Saver,” click on your choice of screen saver.

  5. Step 5

    Select the check box next to “On Resume, Password Protect” or “On Resume, Display Welcome Screen.”

  6. Step 6

    Click “Apply” and “OK.”

Tips & Warnings
  • Not sure what your screen saver password is? It's the same as your logon password.
