Being open minded toward diversity is an important aspect of our changing world, and it is important that you teach this to your child. Here's how to teach children diversity.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk to your child about diversity. The first step to teaching diversity is to talk about it with your children. Doing so engages them in thinking about the differences between people, yet helps them to understand these differences are okay. The biggest culprit behind hate is fear of that which is different. If I child understand that difference is harmless, then he will be more likely to embrace other cultures and ideas.

  2. Step 2

Attend diversity events in your area. After you have educated your child about diversity by talking to her, allow her to actually experience it. This could be an event that celebrates another culture, religion, or sexual preference. This will help to reinforce what you have just taught your child, that there is no solidity in discrimination.

  3. Step 3

Interact with diverse people. Go to areas of town in which you know your child will be immersed in other cultures. Meet people that are diverse from you and provide your child with interaction with them on a regular basis.

  4. Step 4

Shop in diverse stores and frequent diverse businesses. A great way to teach diversity is to take your child to diverse businesses. Visiting a food store that caters to a specific ethnic group can be an excellent way to do this.
