Because we are enjoying a consciousness-expanding, ever-growing emphasis on Green, this article will take a look at the Family area of the Feng Shui Bagua. This is where we find the Chi supporting relations of blood and of choice; as part of our household and at the far reaches of the Earth. This energy also represents our foundation and, for this writing, we include the future.
Step2
As we look in from the front door and imagine a three-by-three grid over our dwelling, the Family area is the middle section on the left (visit www.fengshuiatyourservice.com to view Feng Shui life areas). Family are those we feel close to, a kinship with, even if we don’t see them across our breakfast table. Family is foundation, and our springboard to the outside world. Wood is the supporting Feng Shui element, green the color, and four the number. Encourage Chi with four potted plants here – round, green leaves (no cacti, please). Photos of family members and dear ones in wooden frames (statements of appreciation written on the backs of the pictures). Images of lush trees (not wintry-cold or barren). Place your National Geographic magazine here (we are One with these people, mountains, fish…).
Step3
Feng Shui shows that our surroundings are a reflection of our lives – in our homes and in our neighborhoods. As you begin to organize and clear clutter from this area do so with the mindset of letting go of that which no longer serves you. Set an intention (with gratitude and confidence) that we embrace practices that benefit the Earth. Health and wholeness inside and out, fresh air and water, abundant crops, and Peace – that’s what we want!
Step4
Let us cast a broader net. Let’s aspire to be One Family. Try this the next time you meditate: Think of one of Earth’s Green colors (a Giant Sequoia, a Mallard duck, an emerald, a caterpillar, the inside of a kiwi fruit…). Close your eyes and be with that color and the environment. Then ask how to serve. What is Gaia’s wish? How may we encourage wholeness? If you get something you’re excited about, something juicy, please, let me know what it is – I’ll compile a list!
Step5
As we move forward in a greater effort to embrace the Greening of our communities and ultimately our Planet, let us take direct steps: pull weeds rather than spray; pour yesterday’s pet water on the potted plants outside; once a week on your daily walk, pick up litter; smile more; welcome growth… In great gratitude and with an intention to serve.
