How to Control IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

I've been suffering from IBS for 6 years, so I know first hand how difficult it can be. I can't promise anything, but if you are like me, and have IBS caused by excess bile due gallbladder removal and not any other serious condition, this may work well for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Caltrate 600 Plus with Vitamin D and Minerals

Step1
I can't take credit for finding this, but I can tell you about my experience with it. I'll also provide links to where you can find more information.
Step2
Please consult with a doctor about your medical condition because it could be something more serious that needs medical care. I've been through every test to determine that it wasn't anything more severe causing my IBS: colonoscopy, EGD, etc. All I got from the doctor was that I had IBS due to gallbladder removal which causes excess bile in my system. They offered me some kind of cholesterol lowering drug that also would help control IBS, but I refused it because I didn't want to take a pill every day to solve a problem I had a few times a month. I could control it somewhat with my diet. More fat, more IBS episodes. Going out to eat would always be a trigger, so I would just take Immodium when I went out to eat. I kept searching for a better solution.
Step3
I found an article on the internet about taking Caltrate600 to relieve certain types of IBS. I've been taking Caltrate for 2 months now, and the difference is *incredible*. I no longer have stomach pains for hours anymore. No more diarrhea. I feel like a new person now. I take one tablet a day and it helps me for the next day. If I forget to take it
for a day, I might get diarrhea the next day.

So, for all those IBS suffers out there, I recommend you first see a doctor to determine the possible causes of IBS, but if you also want to try taking calcium carbonate (Caltrate 600), I suggest you read the related articles to get more information about this possible solution for you and consult with your doctor.
Step4
I would really like to hear back from you if this has helped you. It has definitely changed my life and I hope it does for you too.

Tips & Warnings

  • Research this information and consult with your doctor before making a decision.
  • Consult with your doctor about this first. You could have a more serious condition causing this problem. You could be taking other medications that could interact with calcium supplements.

on 5/21/2008 Thanks for this suggestion, I will try it. Eliminating dairy and most meat (especially fatty meats), and oily foods from your diet really helps a lot too.

on 4/4/2008 This works for some, but not for everyone. Probiotics is a very good way to deal with this as well, there are many types. I found a list at http://www.IBSspace.com
