Things You'll Need:
- Ceiling fan
- Portable fan
- Air blower
- Thermostat
-
Step 1
Keep your house well ventilated. Make sure that your home has good air flow. To accomplish this, make sure to install bath and kitchen fans and use portable fans during hot and humid days. If you have ceiling fans, use them to circulate the air in the room. Another way is to open the window to prevent moisture caused by poor air circulation. Check your air vents and ensure that they are not obstructed in any way.
-
Step 2
Make sure that when you are cooking to use the air vent at all times and open the windows to help with air circulation. Follow the same tips when using the dishwasher. When doing the laundry, make sure to use the air vent to keep the moisture out.
-
Step 3
Make sure that your room temperature is properly regulated. Condensation occurs when the relative humidity is too high for the temperature conditions, so you either need to increase the temperature of the surface of the window or lower the humidity in the room.
-
Step 4
Firewood that is stored in the room can emit a lot of moisture so avoid storing them indoors. Live plants can also emit moisture that happens after watering which can be lessened when the plants are watered outside or at night to limit the condensation.
-
Step 5
Check the windows and doors if there are any cracks or broken seals. Replace cracked windows and replace the damaged caulking or seals.
-
Step 6
Check insulation on the attic and crawl space for any discoloration which can be signs of excessive moisture.
-
Step 7
Avoid using humidifiers as much as possible and make sure that the air conditioning is drained outside away from the crawl space.
