Things You'll Need:
- Assorted dress selections
- Good fashion sense and taste
- Close friend's input
- Accessories to match
- Light make up
- Sewing kit and safety pins
- Handy stain spray
-
Step 1
Find out from your date where he is taking you. This is important because some high class restaurants would require you to wear formal attire. This will help you in finding that right dinner dress that would be appropriate for the location.
-
Step 2
Keep it simple. Avoid wearing clothes that are too frilly. Stay current with your style but do not overdo it. A simple little black dress almost always does the trick. It gives you a classic look that makes you look slim and tall and very elegant.
-
Step 3
Know your date's preference. If he is the conservative type, you would not want to show too much skin. If he is the type that would prefer to see a bit of skin here and there, indulge him. Be cautious that you do not look too easy or cheap in your outfit. Even in these modern times that we live in; a guy who wants a serious relationship wants his girl to be respectable.
-
Step 4
Try on several outfits in different colors and lengths. make sure the dress fits you well, meaning, it is not too tight that it would look like something you borrowed from a thinner friend or, the dress is too big than your size that the shoulder strap will be a struggle to keep up. Pick one that really fits you but still would allow you to move freely and comfortably. Remember to test the clothes when standing up, dancing, sitting down and bending. When shopping or choosing for a dress, have a close friend or gal pal, who has excellent fashion taste, with you. One who would be honest enough to tell you what she really thinks. Take her advice, for it can save you a lot of embarrassment.
-
Step 5
Prepare for wardrobe malfunction. One of the things that women dread the most is if the clothes suddenly rips or tears. This can happen to the best of us, even celebrities. If you are planning on wearing a spaghetti-strap dress, make sure that the seams are strong and tight. If not, try to add a bit of stitches using the same color of thread to reinforce the straps and keep them in place. When trying on clothes, make sure to sit on a chair and deep or low sofa. See if the dress is about to tear or rip. If it feels uncomfortable, try on a different dress. Sometimes, no matter how much you try to be careful in picking your perfect dress accidents are bound to happen, so bring a small sewing kit and safety pins just in case. You can do a quick fix when you go to the ladies' room. While you are at it, bring a handy stain remover for accidental spills of food and drink.
-
Step 6
Wear accessories to match. Pick a scarf, shawl, jewelries, belt, purse and shoes to match. Match with coordinating colors from your dress. Do not put too much accessories that you would end up looking like a Christmas tree. It doesn't mean that you have all the best accessories that you have to wear them all together at the same time. Pick nice stud earrings and a simple ring and bracelet and save the rest for next time. Your date should not be distracted by your jewelries and accessories, he should be paying attention to what matters the most--you.
-
Step 7
Wear light make up. Make sure to go as natural as possible. Men nowadays do not like too much make up on their date. Put on light eye shadow and mascara to highlight your eye color. He should notice your eyes instead of the eye make-up. Wear lip gloss and very thin lipstick. Do not use too much lipstick that it would smear on your teeth.
-
Step 8
Wear perfume lightly. Do not spray on too much that it would smell offensive and give your date nausea. That is a turn off. Spray on light cologne that would give you a sweet and attractive scent when he draws closer to you. Do not bathe with cologne that can reek from a mile away. Just dab on perfume at the back of your ear lobes and on your wrists.
-
Step 9
Part of your outfit is your hair. No matter how pretty your dress maybe, if your hair is a mess it will be a turn off. If your hair is straight, keep it down. You can also do a simple updo bun to show your shoulder and neck.
-
Step 10
Check yourself one final time before leaving for your dinner date. Ensure that you like what you are looking at when you face the mirror. Stand up tall, back straight and practice your walk and your smile. Your date will surely comment on how beautiful you look tonight.
