Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Raw bones
- Dry bones
- Greenies or treats with mints
- Mouthwash
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Dog breath spray
Step1
Regularly brush their teeth. Do this at least once a day. There are toothpastes that are flavored with chicken or anything that is attractive to dogs. The tastes are much bearable and your dog will keep asking for more. Rinse well after each brushing and you'll see a big difference in a couple of days.
Step2
Buy a mouth wash for your dog, although it can be harder to apply. Those that come in a spray bottle do wonders and are easier to apply. The product keeps your dogs' gums healthy, preventing bad breath.
Step3
Give treats flavored with breath mints. Dental chews and biscuits with breath mints are just a few examples of the treats that can keep your dog's teeth fresh and white.
Step4
Have your dog chew rawhide to prevent tartar build up. Make sure to monitor closely to prevent choking. Avoid giving cooked bones for they tend to splinter which can cause injury and choking hazard.
Step5
Raw bones and dry bones can be chewed on by dogs to prevent tartar build up.
Step6
Consider dental toys. Have your dogs chew on dental toys that has toothbrush to keep their teeth clean and healthy. Also wash the regular toys they they chew on. The germs from dirty toys can cause gum disease, causing bad breath.
Step7
Avoid feeding too much meat products or, worse, table food. At times when dogs eat human foods they tend to develop tooth decay faster.
Step8
Visit the vet to check up on your dog's dental health. Sometimes bad breath is not only caused by unhealthy gums or tooth decay, but can also be a sign of internal organ infections. Have them checked up if the bad breath doesn't go away after following the previous steps and then ask for advice and medication to treat the internal health problems.
