Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Paint
- Curtains
- Bed linens
- Accessories
- Pictures and wall art
- Stencils
- Ribbons and fringes
- Decorative pillows
Step1
A Parisian theme
Paint the wall in pale yellow or tan. Use flat paint. Add some horizontal or vertical lines if desired to accentuate the walls. You can stencil the wall with words in French or add scroll type motif.
Step2
Add a white balloon shade as window cover. Then flank with a couple of pink striped curtains. Hang the curtains up high to make the room seem taller.
Step3
Add furnishings. Add a four-poster bed draped with fabric on a canopy. If you do not have a four-poster bed, you can use a plain boxy bed but create a tufted or upholstered headboard in neutral or coordinating color with that of the bed linens you are planning to use. Add a couple of bedside table. You do not have to match them as a pair, you can use one night stand on one side and use a round table to be draped with color coordinating cloth on the other side of the bed. Add a dresser table with mirror. You can choose painted furniture or choose dark or light finishes. You can choose a Louis XVI style dresser to go along with a French style. But you can also keep it minimal and with clean lines to look more contemporary or modern. Either way, whether you choose the old Paris look or new Paris look you'll never go wrong so long as the theme is consistent in the room.
Step4
Add bed linens starting with the bed cover. Choose a tailored duvet or mattress cover or use linens with Parisian theme showing the Eiffel tower or the Arc. Accent with pillows that have fringes and floral. Use a lot of silk to soften the look. Use embroidered decorative pillows with French words written on them.
Step5
A lamp with ribbon tied around the neck of the base
Add lighting. Put a lamp shade with fringes and ribbons. There are some lampshade covers that you can easily buy or make which you can put on top of the existing lampshade. For a modern look, keep the lampshade plain. Use a base lamp made of glass that would reflect light like jewelry would.
Step6
Add wall art and accessories. You can add a painted wall art with a Parisian theme or buy a black and white photo of the Eiffel tower and then frame it nicely. Hang wall art above the head of the bed or on any predominant wall. Add a sculpture of the Eiffel tower or the Arc and place them on your bedside tables or dresser table. You can add a couple of hat boxes or mini suitcases that you can use as decorative items and storage to keep those girly things. Add a vase with fresh pink and white roses that you can pick from your garden if you ever grow any or buy at a supermarket. You can also buy silk flower arrangements for they last forever. Hang stylish hats on the wall or frame a pair of stylish gloves in a shadow box. Get some printed fashion or clothing design framed in black then hang a pair or two evenly on the focal wall.
Step7
Add stuffed toy poodle. A Parisian theme girl's bedroom is not complete without it. Place it on the bed next to the pillows or on a tufted chair.

on 8/17/2008 Hi twoshoos...thanks for your comments. Another idea you can do to compliment the wall is by adding metallic paint. You can use a style sort of silver leafing. Add a Venetian cut mirror, a Parisian Style is all about glam...the more bling the better. I also recommend doing fabric upholstery on the wall. You can do it on one wall that your daughter may use as a dressing area where a vanity may be placed. To complement the horizontal wall with wordings choose a fabric with black and white vertical stripes on the opposite side.
