Ted's errors are creating problems for you and you're taking some heat from your boss. You can either grow resentful or raise the issue with your colleague in the hope of correcting the problem. Guess which course is better.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cool off before you talk to Ted. You'll be more reasonable in your approach and that will raise the odds of a positive response.

  2. Step 2

Try to keep the conversation informal but be sure to make your point. The two of you will continue to work together and you don't want to destroy the relationship.

  3. Step 3

Let Ted talk. He's probably a good person and will be embarrassed that he let you down. Listen to his apologies and explanations with an open mind as long as he makes clear he understands your essential point.

  4. Step 4

Drop the issue unless it happens again. Don't refer to Ted's mistakes even in jest. This can take you back to square one and create resentment on his part. Fair is fair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep it between you and Ted unless the problem persists.
  • If Ted continues to cause problems talk to a supervisor.
  • Think before you act.
  • Temper your attitude with the realization that you, too, aren't exactly perfect.
