How to Travel With Cotton Clothes

Cotton clothes are wonderful to wear but – if you don’t want to spend your vacation ironing, you may think it’s best to leave them home. But you CAN do it, if you relax your standards a bit. (In other words, this method will make your clothes reasonably wrinkle-free but they will not have sharp creases!)

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hanger(s)
  • Small spray bottle

Step1
Purchase a hanger or two. The kind that blow up are great but you can even use a plastic hanger from your closet if it fits into your suitcase. If you have cotton pants too, then get a clip-type hanger for them. (The plastic ones you get when you buy a pair of pants are lightweight and work great!) Also purchase a small spray bottle.
Step2
Roll, don’t fold your clothes when you pack. They get less wrinkled that way. Pack your hanger(s) and the empty spray bottle. (You'll fill it with water right before you use it.)
Step3
The night (or a few hours) before you intend to wear the clothes – hang up your shirt or pants and spray lightly with water.
Step4
Run your hands over the garment to smooth out wrinkles. If the ends flip up, just saturate that part.
Step5
Allow to dry overnight (or for a few hours) and the next day enjoy cotton comfort without ironing!

Tips & Warnings

  • This works particularly well with lighter weight clothes, which can dry very quickly.
