Proposing marriage is a big step no matter what year you're planning to do it in. But to propose marriage on a leap year means (if she says yes), you'll only be celebrating your true anniversary every fourth year! Does this mean you only get one anniversary celebration every four years? Doubtful. Ask anyone who is born on a leap year. You generally will celebrate the actual anniversary on the day before. But since Leap Years are just one extra day every four years, here's how to make this Leap Year special if this Leap Year is your year to get married.

How to Propose Marriage on Leap Years

  1. Step 1

Invite your fiancee out for dinner on February 29th. You'll want to give her a little advance warning, since this is a special day and you don't want anything to get in the way of your proposal on this special day.

  2. Step 2

You might want to check around at any special activities that are going to be happening that certain Leap Year day. Check the local papers in your area for festivities that might be unusual and interesting for you and your fiancee to go and see together. This will add a uniqueness and be a good memory in the future, for the two of you, of your marriage proposal.

  3. Step 3

You should start out by talking about why Leap Years are always important to you. Maybe because they only come along once every four years, it's like an extra day you don't expect to have, and one that might bring an unusual surprise. Ask your fiancee if anything special has ever happened to her on Leap Years in the past. (Chances are the answer will be no.)

  4. Step 4

Have some printouts from the internet about facts about Leap Years, and their effects on history, or time, or the planets. Talk about special things in human history that have happened on Leap Years. She'll probably think you're nuts by now.

  5. Step 5

Tell her that you wanted something special to happen this Leap Year, and you wanted her to be a part of it. Then you start your proposal. Tell her why you love her, tell her you couldn't imagine a life without one single day with her. That's why Leap Year is important, because it was a special, extra day made just for you to ask her to marry you. (Of course you tailor this for your own proposal!)

  6. Step 6

    Good luck and happy wedding!
