Cut Your Own Bold, Sexy Bangs

Bold, sexy bangs are all the rage now!! You will see many of the stars on television sporting them. Sure, a salon is a great place to go to get your locks styled with bangs, but in reality, we all lead busy lives and can't always get to the salon. Not to mention the cost. However, you can get that look by cutting them yourself. Here's how to do it without getting that "bowl over the head" look, and without cutting them too short so you'll be crying afterwards.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, invest in a great pair of scissors. These scissors should be especially made for cutting hair, not paper or anything else. They should be pointed with a blade no longer than six inches in length.

  2. Step 2

Start with clean, dry hair. If you decide to cut your hair when it is wet, this may cause it to wind up being too short when you are done. If you find that your hair is frizzy, apply an anti-frizz product, and then blow dry that portion of the hair straight before proceeding.

  3. Step 3

Next, clip back the hair you are not going to cut. The secret to having that bold bang look is to take more hair to cut from the crown of the head. The further up you go, the more bolder the look. The boldest would be taking the hair from the top most part of your head and combing it forward to cut that part, and clipping the rest back.

  4. Step 4

Gather the hair you are going to cut by combing it down and placing it between your middle and index finger to form an even line at the center of the face. Remember, the more hair you gather, the bolder and fuller the bangs will be.

  5. Step 5

Hold the hair securely without stretching. Start at a 45 degree angle and slowly clip a small amount of bangs, moving from left to right. You can always cut more if needed. Check the length. If you want it shorter, then repeat cutting from left to right until it is the desired length.

  6. Step 6

The whole idea to this type of cutting is to get that full bang look. However, if you decide you want to continue and have layers, take a section of the bangs you clipped and place them between your middle and index finger. Pull this back vertically above your head. Sliding your hand upward, leave about an inch above your fingers and cut across to a point above your fingers. Repeat this with the other section until you have the amount of desire layers you like.

  7. Step 7

Run your fingers trough and check the length again. Wow, don't you look gorgeous!!!
    Happy cutting!

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid stretching the hair. This can end up in shorter bangs than you had planned for.
  • Don't raise your eyebrows or cross your legs because this can cause the end hair result to be shorter in length!
  • If your hair is curly, allow for the extra length since hair will be shorter when retaining it's natural length.
  • Be sure to wear an old shirt when cutting so you don't get hair everywhere!

on 4/18/2008 Be REALLY careful if you decide to do this: my auntie once cut her fringe, got a hair stuck to her eyeball and had to go to hospital to get it removed.
