Many people feel overwhelmed by the churning wind of life’s constant challenges. Indeed, there are times that we question if we will ever catch a break. Things seem too difficult. We wonder if there will ever be an end to our health, financial or other problems. Perhaps we’re just having a bad day.

No matter what we are feeling at a given time; God is always present. God is not invisible. We can find God in virtually an instant. By spending only a few minutes with a flower, we can find and feel God. Flowers are the reproductive structures of flowering plants. As such, flowers are symbols of life! Since God is the Prime Mover and Creator of all Life, the flower is a perfect symbol of God.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare yourself for an encounter with God. Sit quietly in a chair indoors. Close your eyes for a moment and inhale. Now, exhale. Inhale again and exhale. With your eyes still closed, say to yourself (aloud or in your head), “Dear God, I look forward to finding you in a flower. Thank you for revealing yourself to me.” Open your eyes.

  2. Step 2

Locate a flower to look at. If you are in your house, you might keep flowers in pots. You could also go outdoors. Be creative. Flowers are everywhere. You just have to notice them. If you cannot get close to a flower, you can look at a picture of one in a book or magazine.

  3. Step 3

Gaze softly, but intently, at the flower. Take note of the colors. Observe its height. Consider whether or not it is standing straight and tall, or if it droops over. Notice how many details abound in this one flower. Consider how many specifics God included in your design!

  4. Step 4

Count the petals on the flower. Notice how soft, delicate and detailed they are. Look at their size and features. Observe whether or not they appear smooth and silky. Consider the design and purpose of these petals. Also contemplate how God created you, like this flower. God also has a purpose for you.

  5. Step 5

Look closely at the stalk of the flower. Notice whether or not it lists. See how firmly it is rooted into the ground. Be aware of the life force pulsating through this flower stem. Thank God for creating you. Feel your essence as rooted in his strength and power.

  6. Step 6

Say a short prayer of gratitude. Thank God for creating all Life, including you and the flower. Thank God for beautiful colors. Thank God for the intricate design of the Universe and everything within it, from the Earth to the sun, moon, stars flowers and you!
