Many people would love the freshness of home ground grains, but are not aware that they already have in their kitchen an easy way to accomplish the task. By grinding your own whole grains, you are assured of fresh ingredients and no fillers.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Check to make sure the blender is assembled correctly and that all inside parts are dry.
Step2
Start with a half cup of whole grain. Turn the blender up to its highest speed. If the blender seems to bog down, stop and reduce the amount of grain.
Step3
Add a larger amount for the next batch if the blender handled the original half cup sufficiently.
Step4
Continue to grind the grains until they reach the consistency desired.
Step5
Grind the grain in batches until the desired amount is achieved.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some blenders are too lightweight to grind grains without overheating. By starting with small batches, you can determine if your blender can handle the workload.
  • A blender can be used to grind grains from a rough grind to a soft flour.
  • Some food processors are capable of grinding grains, also.
  • Many brands of kitchen center appliances have a grain grinding attachment.
