We all know choosing a dog can be a difficult process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Evaluate your lifestyle. Are you busy, and always on-the-go? Or do you spend most of your time at home? How old is the youngest family member- and do they know how to treat a dog? Who will take care of the dog? Why do you want a dog? Make sure you a good idea of how your family will contribute to taking care of the dog.

  2. Step 2

Be certain that this dog fits your lifestyle. Make sure you can keep up with it's grooming, vet, and other needs.

  3. Step 3

Start looking into if you'll get a male or female. The temperament of each gender varies on which breed you select.

  4. Step 4

Decide the breed you want and why you want it. If you want an agility dog, you probably won't want a Chihuahua. If you want a hunting dog, don't get a Yorkie. Make sure you know the difference between a show quality dog and a pet dog. If you don't want a show quality dog, buy a pet quality dog. They are much cheaper, and if your not into showing there is no need for one. This won't affect how cute they are

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you know how to train your dog. If you don't have the time to do all the obedience and potty training- get an older dog. If you don't want and elderly dog- get one around the age of two. A good breeder will possibly have a dog he is willing to give up, or he could help you find one.
  • Watch out for pet stores! Never get a pet store pet- because it's from a puppy mill. If you don't know what a puppy mill is Google search it! If your dog is from a pet store it will suffer from behavior and health problems. You're supposed to enjoy your dog! Look for responsible breeders.
