Things You'll Need:

  • You will need to pay attention to details!
  1. Step 1

There are many symptoms of having a stroke. I will give you the most common ones. The first symptom is difficulty speaking. For example my Dad's speech was slurred. The more I asked questions the more he had difficulty speaking. You need to ask questions that do not have yes and no answers.

  2. Step 2

The second symptom is a crooked mouth. The right or left side of the bottom lip may be drooped down. Ask the person to smile. When he or she smiles they will have a hard time smiling and you will be able to see if their mouth is crooked.

  3. Step 3

Third, weakness or numbness happens on one side of the body in a leg, arm or hand. I really knew my Father was having a stroke when I asked him to walk. He had difficulty walking, walking slow and with a limp. He also dragged his right leg while walking.

  4. Step 4

If any of these symptoms occur its better to go to the Emergency Room or call 911 as soon as possible than to wait for a Medical Doctor appointment. Every second counts. My Dad didn't want to go to the hospital but my Mom and I had to make him go. He was able to get treated and he was started Plavix medication. If he didn't go to the hospital he may not be with us today.
