Chapped lips can be caused by a variety of reasons, including a Vitamin B deficiency, exposure to windy weather, and eating very salty foods. Lips can get dry, chapped, and painful during the cold winter months. To avoid painful cracks and chapping, follow these tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Apply shea butter, olive oil, or coconut oil to your lips. These oils sink into your skin and immediately soothe some of the roughness.

  2. Step 2

Stay away from salty and spicy foods when your lips are chapped. These will aggravate the problem.

  3. Step 3

Reduce outdoor exposure to your lips. When you go outside, pull a scarf up over your lips to protect them from the wind.

  4. Step 4

Try honey. Before you go to bed, apply a thin layer of honey to your lips. They will feel much softer when you wake up.

  5. Step 5

Stay away from lip products that contain alcohol. Alcohol sometimes shows up as an ingredient in lip gels and lipstick, but alcohol will dry your lips out even more.
