Epsom salt baths have long been used as a safe, effective remedy for different ailments. Sore muscles benefit from this natural mineral bath, also known as magnesium sulfate, which is believed to reduce inflammation and relieve pain, as explained by the Epsom Salt Council. Athletes will use an Epsom salt bath for sore muscles from overuse, injury, cramping or strain and the mineral soak also helps with sore or tired feet. Epsom salt is widely available and can be found in drug stores and pharmacies, as well as the medicine aisle of large grocery stores.
Measure 2 cups of Epsom salt into a standard bathtub. Instructions on the package will provide dosage for smaller baths, bowls and foot-soaks.

Fill the tub with hot water, checking the temperature to make sure it is safe and comfortable for soaking in. Swish the water around to dissolve the Epsom salts.

Soak the sore muscles or body in the Epsom salt bath for 15 minutes or so. The recommended minimum time is 12 minutes, three times each week, according to the Epsom Salt Council. Your Epsom salt package may provide additional timing for specific uses.
